On the night you were born

On the night you were born,
The moon smiled with such wonder
That the stars peeked in to see you
And the night wind whispered,
“Life will never be the same.”
~Nancy Tillman

Dear Jamie,

365 days ago you made me a mom.  You made us a family.
Since the moment I heard your first little cry and laid eyes on your sweet little face, life has truly never been the same.  You've changed me in ways you'll never know.  You've taught me more in one year than in all of my first 29 combined.  You've made me a stronger person.  Everyday you amaze me.  Everyday you make me laugh.  Everyday you challenge me in ways I didn't think were possible.  On even my darkest days, you helped me see the light at the end of the tunnel.  You've opened my eyes to a love I never even knew existed.  A mother's love.  And it's amazing.  Just when I think it isn't possible....that my heart is already bursting...you find a way to make me love you even more.  I enjoy watching you learn and explore the world around you.  You're such a busy, independent little boy...but it melts my heart how sometimes, right before bed you'll still let me snuggle, even if for only a moment.  I still tip toe into your room every single night, just to watch you sleep.  Maybe when you're 16, I'll stop.  Maybe.  I'm so grateful to be your mom.  I think God knew what He was doing the day he sent you to me, because together we make a pretty good team.  I can't wait to see what the future brings for you Mr. Boo, cause I know you're going to do great things!

He said.....she said.....

He Said: What are you eating?
She Said: A cupcake.....
He Said: For breakfast?  What kind of example are you setting for our son?
She Said: That cupcakes have eggs in them deeming them a perfectly acceptable breakfast food
He Said: I can't argue with that, carry on.

The biggest New Year's Eve Party we'll probably ever throw

I'm back for part 2 of wedding extravaganza!!
Thank you so much for your fabulous comments, way to make a girl feel like rockstar!!
Our Wedding day was one of the best days of our life and we often laugh and say we wish we could do it all over again!  My dad however said the next time we have to foot the bill....soooooo I wouldn't hold your breath on another big bash anytime soon!

Music
Our ceremony music was pretty traditional.  Bridesmaids came in to Canon in D, me Trumpet Voluntary.  We had an organist, so it sounded amazing in the church.  For our first dance we had a hard time.  I think it changed 3 or 4 times.  I didn't want something cliche. I didn't want something super slow and sappy.  My husband actually suggested "Love you till the End" by the Pogues.  It's from the movie "PS I love you" which is one of our favorites.  Plus I have a thing for Irish rock music, so this fit the bill perfectly!

Newlyweds
Mr & Mrs EyeCanSee!!

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue
Old: The rosary my Grandma gave me was in my bouquet
New: Dress
Borrowed: Mom's diamond earrings
Blue: Blue topaz ring which was a gift from both my grandma's

Photography
Adam was an old friend of my husband's, so when it came time to choose it was kind of a no brainer.  Plus he does amazing work!  Since the day is gone within the blink of an eye it was important to us to have a wonderful photographer to catch all those little moments.  We couldn't be happier with our pictures.

Question Popping
The hubs had planned to do it in the park across the street, but we had a horrible snow storm the day before so he had to have a quick change of plans.  He ended up asking me in our condo, before we left for dinner, while I was getting ready.....in the bathroom.  Romantic huh?  Haha.  I still give him crap for it.  But honestly?  He could have asked me in a garbage dump and I wouldn't have cared.  And he did make up for it by surprising me once we got the restaurant and I saw our families there to help celebrate!

Rings
Hers says "The Juice is"
His says "Worth the Squeeze"

Shoes
I don't wear heels.  Like ever.  So it only made sense to wear flats on my wedding day.  I found some simple ballet slippers with a little bling which were perfect and super comfy.  To spice them up a bit, I dyed them red.  I love seeing them peek through in pictures!

Tuxes
In case you hadn't noticed yet, our official colors were Chocolate Brown, Ivory and red.  So for the guys we picked out a pinstriped brown tux.  In 30 years am I going to look back and laugh and wonder "what were you thinking?!?" a la the powdered blue tux of the 70s?  Maybe, but we loved them and I think the hubs looked pretty dashing.

Unique
Well for one, we got married on New Year's Eve.  We think that's pretty unique.

We also did a photo booth, which while popular now, ours was the first wedding I had ever been to with one.  Every had a blast with it!
And finally, my vintage white Rolls Royce.  I was slightly obsessed with having it.  If we had snow or ice they wouldn't have been able to take it out, so I was praying for good weather.  We lucked out with a gorgeous cold, but sunny and snow free day!!  Plus we later found out it was the car used in The Godfather.  How awesome it that?!

Vows
We went with the traditional vows.  No way would either one of us had made it though if we'd had to write out own.

WeddingWoes
Honestly.  Not one. We lucked out with a pretty perfect day!  Either that or everyone did a REALLY good job of hiding it from me!

X-Rated
The stereotypical removal of the garter.  That's about as X-rated as we'll be getting here on the blog.

You may now kiss the bride
The hubs isn't big for PDA so I'd been teasing him that he better not just kiss me on the cheek!  He went for the classic hands on the face kiss.

Zzzzzz.....The End

Thanks for letting me share our fabulous day with all of you!!!  Did you miss A-L?  Check it out here!
Several of you said you were going to do an A-Z post too, can't wait to see them!!  If you need more inspiration I got the idea from Chic & Pink who snagged it from My Perfect Compliation Tape who borrowed it from.....well you get the idea.  Seems to be making it's way through the blogosphere!
Happy Tuesday Friends!

The one where my baby turns into a big boy

It was officially time.
Time for this mama to let go and take Jamie in for his FIRST haircut.
He'd been called a girl more times than I could count and his hair was always in his eyes.
I wasn't so sure how this was going to go.
Telling an almost one year old to sit still while a woman you don't know yields sharp instruments near his head had me a nervous wreck.
I mean, we already have one scar in the works, vision of number 2 were dancing in my head.
I did a little googling and found a kids only place nearby.
Chairs that look like cars and people who deal with squirmy kids all the time?!
Score!
So Friday night after work the three of us trekked over to the salon to turn my baby into a BIG boy!

Hi mom!  I'm ready!

Mom, this place is sweet! Beep, beep!

Ummm.  Excuse me.  Do I know you....you're kinda interrupting my drive time here lady.

Hold on.  Let me adjust my mirror.  I need to get a better look at what exactly you're doing.

Oh hi mom! Wait, why are you holding my hands....

Please stop touching me.  There aren't enough race car chairs in the world to get me to sit still any longer.
Can we be done now?

What just happened mom....
Jamie lived up to his busy boy ways and wiggled a lot, but she somehow managed to get it done.
And look!  You can actually see those gorgeous baby blues now!
Here he is modeling his outfit for his 1 year pictures....complete with tags still attached.  LOL.
I think I'm going to be in trouble with this one!
I mean really?!?  He looks like he's 1 going on 16!

It's a nice day....for a white wedding

I got married before I became a blogger.
So with the exception of a few anniversary posts, there really hasn't been much wedding talk around these parts.
It's a shame really.
I have watched many a blogger plan entire weddings and relived every moment of their big day from the centerpieces to the bridesmaid dresses.
Well now it's my turn to share with you the biggest New Year's Eve party where we said 'I do'!
Don't worry, I'm not going to take a year to recap it.
Instead I'm going to take a page from a few other bloggers and relive it from A to Z!

Attending
Right around 115.  Maybe 125?  Is it sad that 2 1/2 years later I don't even remember the number that was burned into my brain for so many months??
Bridesmaids
I had two Maids of Honor, my two best friends, and two bridesmaids, my best friend since 3rd grade (and future mother-in-law to my son, haha) and my sister-in-law.  I was so glad to have 4 of the most important women in my life standing by my side!

Cake
Our cake lady was maybe the sweetest woman ever.  Seriously, if you're getting married in Columbus look up Anita Klein!  She worked with me and my 19433908233 changes, including an entirely new design just weeks before the wedding.  My original thought was to do one of those Madhatter style, topsy turvy cakes, but at the last minute I changed my mind.  I wanted something more simple.  Classic.  Something that embraced our New Year's Eve Wedding.  So when I saw a picture of a cake that looked like it had champagne bubbles cascading down the side I had to have it.  Anita took the idea and made it a reality.  I LOVED it.  And not only did it look good, it tasted amazing.

Dress
After spending an entire day with my mom, MIL and 2 MOH's dress shopping I thought I had found "the one."  It was NOTHING like I had pictured.  A bit form fitting.  Lace that flowed into a tulle skirt.  Champagne colored with a chocolate brown sash.  It was gorgeous and I looked damn good in it.  The next day my mom, dad and I went to take one more look at it.  While putting it on, someone let my dad loose in the bridal salon and he came back with a dress.  It wasn't one I had tried on.  It was completely different than the one I'd fallen in love with the day before.  It was stunning.  I tried it on and immediately knew this was the dress I'd be getting married in.  It was perfect.  Long train.  Sweetheart neckline.  The most fabulous silk taffeta I'd ever felt.  Just enough beading and bling, but not so much it was over the top.  It was me.

Engagement
Just 10 months after our first date my husband got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.  The center stone in my ring is the same stone my dad proposed to my mom with that came from my Great Grandfather's Jewelry Store.  So it's pretty special.
I won't bore you with all the details.  You can check out the whole store here if you'd like.
Flowers
My bouquet was all red.  A mixture of roses and calla lilies.  The hubs, a red rose boutonniere.  The bridesmaids carried red and white roses, the groomsmen  had red and white bouts to match.

For centerpieces we had no flowers.  Instead we did tall vases filled with cranberries to hold branches that were dripping with crystals and candles.  I loved how simple and elegant they were.  Plus the height in the ballroom was fantastic!
Groomsmen
The hubs had four guys on his side.  His cousin, two friends and my brother.

Honeymoon
We took a quick mini-moon right after the wedding down at a cabin in Hocking Hills.  It was the perfect little getaway.  Then in March we took an 8 day cruise through Panama, Costa Rica and Belize.  It was amazing!  If you're ever bored, scroll through the March 2009 blog archives for some pretty funny recaps of our Caribbean adventure!

Invitations
I worked with a local shop to design all our paper needs.  Invites.  Programs.  Menus.  They turned out better than I could have imagined.  I remember stopping by her shop to pick up the proof and actually tearing up at the sight of them.  Unfortunately I don't have a good photo of them.  So this will have to do.

Justice of the Peace
We got married by Fr. Jerry at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Columbus.  He was a funny guy who openly told us that he didn't have much to do, so he met with all his couples probably more than any priest in the archdiocese.  He was not kidding.  Most other Catholics I know met like one time, took the compatibility test and then didn't see them again until they were walking down the aisle.  Not us.  We faithfully met with him every Saturday morning for months.  Thankfully he was entertaining.  Sort of.

Keepsakes
We have our wedding album of course.  And for our guestbook I made a book of pictures of us on MyPublisher that our guests signed like a yearbook instead of the boring old traditional kind that you'll never look at again.  It turned out great and sits proudly on our coffee table.

Ladies Night
I actually had TWO.  A surprise girls weekend in Chicago with my mom, MIL and bridesmaids and then your typical night of Bachelorette debauchery in town with all my favorite ladies.  Both were an absolute blast!!

To be continued.....
