Practice makes perfect

Today I'm off to work.
A year ago I was getting my nails done
Lunching with all the ladies
And perfecting my walk down the aisle.
I think I'd rather be doing the latter!

Happy Anniversary Eve!

I think I'm getting carpal tunnel

From playing too much Wii.
Yes. You read that correctly.

For Christmas I bought the hubs a Wii.
(ok, it was just as much for me)
Now I'm officially addicted to Mario Cart.
It's like a 6th grade flash back to the good ole SNES.

Wanna know the coolest part??
Today I raced my best friend.....all the way in Ohio.
Holy Crap technology!
How crazy is that!

Third times the charm!

That's right....I'm PREGNANT!!!!
Just over 8 weeks making the little one due around Aug 6.
I'm sooo looking forward to those hot mama maternity bathing suits....ha!

Since we'd been trying for a few months I pretty much knew when Aunt Flo was due. After 2 months in a row of seeing that big fat ugly negative pregnancy test I promised myself I would NOT test until I was officially late. All of this was to happen while we were in Ohio for Thanksgiving...so the plan was, if nothing appeared by the time we got home Sunday, I'd test. Well the Tuesday before rolled around and I totally caved. BFN....again. Great...on to month #4. I'm infertile and never having children. (It's amazing how dramatic you can get over one little line) Heartbroken I shuffle off to work.

Wednesday comes and goes, we fly off to Ohio. No Aunt Flo. Thanksgiving comes and goes. Still no Aunt Flo. Ok lady...now you're officially late and kind of a beotch. Friday the hubs and I are running errands and he tells me to just buy another test. So I do. They say early on it's most effective first thing in the morning...so you can imagine how well I slept that night. Not a wink. At 4:30 or 5 Saturday morning I finally just say screw it and head to my mother in laws bathroom, pee stick in hand. As I sit there waiting for it to cook I start to see the faintest of second lines appearing. I must be seeing things. But then clear as day, there they are....two lines. OMG! I run back to our room, whisper shouting to my husband....

"There's two lines, there's two lines!!"
(remember it's like 4:30 in the morning)
He finally wakes up and is like,
"Huh? Two lines....I'm not on your side of the bed"
"NO! (as I'm waving the stick in his face) TWO LINES!"
".....STFU, does it count? The line isn't as dark as the other"
"Yep, a line is a line, I'm totally pregnant"

He smiled really big and gave me hug. Then went back to bed. I on the other hand was now wide awake.

So far I've been feeling pretty good. The nausea kicked in around week 6 and lasts a good portion of the day which is great fun. Whoever called it morning sickness never actually experienced it! I keep my energy through the day, but by the time I get home I crash and count down the hours till I can go to bed, usually I give in around 9. My pants are still fitting, I've actually managed to lose 4 pounds which I attribute to my loss of sweet tooth. Yes folks, the sugarholic now has no desire for sweets at all, especially chocolate. We've had a bag of Hershey's mint chocolate in our house for weeks and I ate maybe 2 Christmas cookies. It's weird and something I hope lasts well past pregnancy!

It's been killing me not to tell all of you, but we were waiting until Christmas to spill the beans to our family and both moms are frequent blog readers. So alas I've had to wait what feels like forever! Everyone was thrilled with the news...especially since this will be the first grandchild on both sides!

Back to the airport! (Our home away from home)

Whew! What a whirlwind weekend! After all our trials and tribulations we had a nice, but short, visit to Columbus. I'm actually impressed with all the people we managed to see in the mere 48 hours we were here!

I'm happy to say all our planes today appear to be on time.
YES!

So with our frozen wedding cake top in tow (Our 1st Anniversary is Thursday!!!!) along with all our Christmas loot we head back to KC!

Hope everyone is enjoying their last few moments of peace and quiet before Monday rears it's ugly head!

The 12 hours of Christmas....literally

(That's not actually our plane. Ours you couldn't even see the windshield under all the ice)
2AM
Wake up. Look out the window. Blizzard. Awesome.

3AM
Check airport. Things are all still on time? Seriously? All righty...off we go

3:30AM
Open the garage door, see 2 ft snow drift....thank goodness for 4 wheel drive

4:30AM
Finally arrive at the airport, it only took twice as long and we had a 3 plow escort practically the entire way

5:30AM
Plane should be leaving. Announcement made that the plane is ready to go, but the pilot is still trying to get here. Seriously...he was staying at an airport hotel. Did he not think to leave a few minutes earlier? We all made it on time. Jack ass.

6:00AM
All passengers going to Columbus, meaning the two of us, you will be missing your connecting flight, please go to the desk to be re-routed. F*ck.

7:00AM
Finally get through the massive line. We are now on a 12:00PM flight to Milwaukee connecting to Columbus for an arrival time of 6:20PM. F*ck.

8:00AM
Christmas morning breakfast at the airport Cinnabon. I've already been awake 5 hours. Cranky pants are officially on.

12:00PM
Finally get on a plane. Alleluia!! Sit on plane for 1 hour while we get de-iced and the baggage truck gets stuck in the snow.

1:00PM
Take off!

2:00PM
I've been awake for 12 hours. Sigh.

3:00 PM
Land in Milwaukee. Eat best airport sandwhich ever. Though at that point we were so hungry dirt would have tasted good.

4:00PM
Board commuter jet to Columbus. No jet-way. Walk outside...in the rain...up the ramp. Get settled. "Ladies and Gentlemen, it appears we've all boarded the wrong plane and need to be in the one directly to our left" F*ck.

4:30PM
Back out into the rain. Board correct plane. Take off.

6:30PM
Arrive in Columbus, exactly 9 hours late.

It may not have been the Merriest of Christmases, but it certainly was a memorable one!! Hope you all had a slightly smoother holiday then us!

I'm dreaming of a white Crhistmas

Actually no,
that's a lie.
I was dreaming of an uneventful weather related Christmas
Where planes leave on time
especially at 5:30 in the morning.

But a white Christmas is what we got folks.
And it's still coming down here in Kansas City.
Supposedly our flight is still on time.
So at 3:30 Christmas morning,
the hubs and I are off to Ohio by way of Milwaukee.

Perhaps we'll catch a glimpse of Santa
Cause I'm pretty sure he's the only other fool up this early.
Flying through the snow.

Wish us luck.
Oh.
And MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Cut the cord people

First of all let me state the obvious.
I love my husband.
I enjoy every pretty much all of the time we spend together.

But I'm human.
I like alone time.
I like time with my girlfriends.
I'm a firm believer that distance makes the heart grow fonder.

What's with the crazy couples on Real Housewives?
You haven't spent a night apart since the moment you met?
You can't travel without each other?
Really?
Excuse me while I go vomit in my mouth.
I think it's healthy in a relationship to have different interests from time to time and I think every couple needs a break now and again.

For once, I may be siding with Vicki.
A girls weekend is just that.
GIRLS.
It doesn't mean you should drag your boyfriend/fiance/husband/life partner along for the ride.
Seriously?
Cut the cord and get your own life already.

Where it's always 58 degrees

My garage that is. I love it. Every morning I get into my car and the temp reads 58. As I back out into the frozen cold tundra I watch it plummet into single digits.

When we first moved to KC, I'd been letting the hubs park in the single car garage. My car had never seen the inside of one so what did I care. Plus, it was August. Well after our first few weeks of winter, my poor hubby has graciously given up his spot. I'm a spoiled wife and it's fantastic!

After living 10 years sans a garage I've quickly remembered how wonderful they are. I don't have to wear my hat, gloves and scarf on the drive to work anymore. I don't have to wait for my car to heat up before even thinking about turning on the heat. And the best part of all....I don't have to scrape the 5 inch layer of ice and snow off my windshield.

Ahhh....so this is what heaven is like!

Murphy's Law

When running late in the morning you will
hit every red light
and get stuck behind every slow driver in town.
How is it only Wednesday......

Oh Taylor....what have you done.

As a curly haired girl myself, I love when big named celebs rock the curls.
I do not like it when they join the rest of the lemmings and iron it out.

For years I flat ironed my hair, refusing to believe I had curly hair. One day I said screw this, and have embraced my locks ever since. On rare occasions (and when I say rare I mean when my hair stylist does it) I will still straighten my hair, but I don't have the patience to do it myself anymore. I hope this is Ms. Swift's story....cause if she starts donning this look on a permanent basis, I will be sorely disappointed! Bring back the curls Taylor!
