The forgotten holiday

Did you know there's a holiday between Halloween and Christmas??

I did.
It's called Thanksgiving.
The forgotten holiday.

Apparently the rest of America does not remember.
Gone are the pumpkins and fall decor.
The radio stations are already playing holiday music 24/7
The Christmas trees and lights have already taken over.
The Sunday Ads are flooded with holiday gift ideas.
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation was on CMT.

W.T.F.

Somewhere along the line, Thanksgiving has become my favorite holiday.
For starters, it's way more low key than Christmas.
No shopping required.
There's tons of yummy food.
Great football.
Tons of family and friends.
It's a long weekend.
The weather is usually still pretty mild.
And it's the KICKOFF to the Christmas season.
Not the afterthought.

So why does it seem like this poor step child of the holidays gets overlooked every year??

Don't get me wrong.
I'm no scrooge.
I LOVE Christmas and all it entails.
But please, for the love of all that's holy, please stop with the Jingle Bells already!

Kthankbai.

Awe!!! We all love Thanksgiving but you're right it definitely gets lost in the fluff of the other holidays. Thanksgiving day is totally the kickoff to our Christmas season. I spend the day cooking and putting up decorations while everyone watches the Macy's Parade and enjoys the day. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving this year!!! XOXO

Thanksgiving is also my favorite even though it does get shuffled in between the holidays--It's all about family and friends without all the money spending!

Amen! I couldn't agree with you more. Halloween day, boyfriend and I were driving around, and a big furniture store up here already had their Christmas garlands, wreaths and bows on the outside of the store! It was Halloween day! Argh.

Thanksgiving is also my fav holiday, and I can't wait. I'm begging my mom to do it this year, because for the first year in a while, it might go to my aunt's house. But I ADORE my mom's Thanksgiving dinner like no other.

I went to the store ON HALLOWEEN and the huge christmas display was the first thing you saw when you walked in! The asiles have already been filled with ornaments and pumpkins are on sale for like 50 cents. madness!!

You know, I've been wondering that myself. I love thanksgiving for about a hundred different reasons and I'm sad to see it shoved out of the way for Christmas.

I completely agree! My birthday is in early November, and I REFUSE to start thinking about Christmas before that day or Thanksgiving. It creeps me out to see Christmas decorations and hear Christmas music the day after Halloween.

Geez.

i agree. its still odd to me that there is so much christmas stuff out. even BEFORE halloween there was already so much cmas out. man. but just think theres only like 52 days until cmas - so this is the retail industrys way of trying to get us to do more early shopping!

I totally get what you are saying. Although I am in love with everything Christmas and I have no problem with seeing things in the stores already...I'm a fan of Thanksgiving! Who doesn't like pie...I mean giving thanks? :)

I completely agree. It seems the day after Halloween that most people go straight into Christmas mode. Thanksgiving is a holiday that I have always loved. It is so nice to have a long weekend, eat delicious food, watch football and just relax with the family. Black Friday shopping has also become a tradition that I look forward to each year.
