My computer got an STD

Sunday night I came home to discover my computer has a virus. Joy. How I managed to get a virus when I wasn't even home I'm not sure. Let's just say my desktop has loose morals and was stepping out Saturday night. Slut. So for about 3 hours yesterday morning I tried to get rid of this thing. I'll be the first to admit that outside of basic Internet and word processing, I'm computer illiterate. So I contacted Norton for some help....to which they were more than glad to offer....for a price tag of 139.99! Seriously??? So I pay a yearly premium for your service and it when it fails to do what it's supposed to, I have to pay more to fix it. Well that's a sham on the American public if I've ever heard one. I ended up going with the lesser fix it plan for a mere 99.99. Gee. What a bargain. They sign on remotely to your computer and then you sit there and watch someone you can't even see move your mouse and open programs. It was kinda freaky. But now I'm back.....disease free! Woo hoo!!

Note to anyone out there. Personal Anitvirus is NOT an actual virus program, it's spyware. Do not download it or you will be forced to watch Arif from Norton play with your computer for hours then hand you a stiff bill.

I think my laptop has a virus of some sort right now too. Fortunately my brother is a big computer dork and is usually able to fix all my technology problems.

Oh no!! It sounds like a rootkit got into your PC. They are malware and are usually designed to look/act like legit antivirus companies and trick you into downloading them. :( I'm glad you were able to get everything fixed!

Computer problems can be so frustrating! I am glad you got it fixed, but sorry it cost so much. It freaks me out when I'm at work and tech support takes over my computer too, so I definitely know the feeling.

P.S. I love the title of this post!

Let that be a reminder girls! Accidents happen, even if we're being "safe"! ;-)

Glad you're back up and running. Computer stuff is the WORST.

yeah, they were just talking about that on the radio the other day. the dj downloaded it and the producer of the show was going on and on about how you should never accept any downloads that just pop up on your screen...or anyone's you haven't sought yourself. you should go to them. not the other way around. it was a good point. and one i plan to remember!!
