The Grinch that stole Christmas

I keep reading all these posts with everyone's favorite Christmas traditions and I got to thinking....doesn't anyone have that one thing about Christmas that annoys the living crap out of them?  I know I do.  In fact within minutes I was able to come up with several...my husband said I was being a Scrooge.  Whatever.  Bah Humbug.  I know I'm not the only one out there.....

***Disclaimer. I'm not a total Grinch I swear. I've decorated the tree, strung the outside lights, baked the cookies, wrapped the presents, sang the carols....just thought this would be a fun little twist on the 8,215,524 Merry Christmas posts I've read***

Blue Christmas Lights
I don't mind some blue, but everytime I see a house entirely lit up in blue....I wonder if they're Jewish....cause blue makes me think of Chanuka....not Christmas.  Where's the red and the green people?! (And if they are Jewish and trying to get in the Chanuka spirit, right on!)

Why bother lights
While we're on the subject of lights.  What's with the one bush?  Or the one lame, crooked strand of lights that isn't even long enough for your entire house.  Next year put a little more effort into it.

Home Alone
This is NOT a Christmas movie.  It's a movie about a boy who gets left behind and has to fight of burglars.  The fact that it takes place at Christmas does not in fact make it a Christmas movie.  Whew.  Feels good to get that off my chest.

Christmas Tree Peeps.
Peeps are Easter candy.  Don't make them tree shaped and try to pass them off as anything else.  I'm not buying it.

Decorated Cars
What's with the wreaths strapped to the front of the SUV or the garland wrapped around the luggage rack of the ole family mini van.  The newest trend?  Rudolph cars.  They don't make me feel more festive, they make me want to run you off the road.  Don't decorate your car....it's stupid.

Kids only Cards
I love picture cards....we send them out every year.  But it really bugs me when I get a card from a friend and the only picture on it is of their kids.  Seriously?  In 12 months you couldn't find one decent picture of yourself?  I get it.  You think your kid is cute.  But you're my friend and I'd like to see you too.

M&M Cookies
Adding red and green M&M's does not in fact make these Christmas cookies.  It just makes them cookies you'd make any other time of year with red and green M&Ms instead of regular ones.
Christmas Shoes song
You know the one.  Where the little boy is trying to by shoes for his mom.  It's horrible and depressing and there's nothing fun and Christmasy about it.  Let's not even mention the fact Lifetime made a movie about it.

So come on.  Release your inner Scooge and let me know your "can't stands" about Christmas.

I totally agree with Home Alone, the crappy Christmas lights, and the decorated cars. And the kids-only Christmas cards! Those always get pushed to the back of my display. :)

PS: Thanks for pointing out the "piano." I can sleep easier now. :)

I love this post :) While I love Christmas there are several things that bug the crap out me, and you touched on most of them. The decorated cars, the crappy Christmas lights, and most of all, the worst Christmas song ever made. I hate that Christmas Shoes song, it makes me want to push the little boy off a bridge...:)
Merry Christmas!

Oh my gosh, you know I normally love you, but I LOVE decorating our car! We do the Rudolph car for sure and this year we've spotted Elf Cars...elf ears instead of antlers.

Everything else, I'll give ya though.

My pet peeves at Christmas...um, can I count my inlaws as 1?! ;)

Ha! I love this post.

1. Bruce Springsteen's rendition of Santa Claus is coming to town. It makes me want to jerk the wheel in to on coming traffic.
2.The song "same old lang syne" it is a horrible song and I wish they would stop playing it. It talks about how the guy met his old lover at the grocery store, and it was snowing Christmas eve... that is the only holiday ref. made the whole song.
3.Using more that one infatable Christmas decoration in your front yard. I think it is just lazy.

Great idea... let's vent a bit, shall we? :)

I'm so with you on the half-assed lights. Do it, or don't do it, there's no try. Yoda was wise indeed.

I also can't stand how everyone seems to forget how to drive around Christmas! OMG

I HATE the decorated cars too, it always looks so stupid! I also agree about the Christmas Shoes song. What a depressing thing to listen to.

That Christmas Shoes song has to be the worst, most depressing song ever made. Why would you want to depress people at Christmas time?? Also, I hate eggnog. It's just nasty.

CRACK ME UP! Oh man, this post made my day. I totally agree with you on all these... except the other day I did see a big huge SUV w/ a little teeny lit up tree tied to the top. That car decoration was hilariously awesome.

Cheers to being a grinch!

hahahaahahah! That damn Christmas shoes song is ridiculous! I think NO Christmas song should be sad. Lame. You crack me up. Eric hates blue lights, too! So funny! There are definitely things that bother me about the holidays, mostly involving people... haha!

The movie A Christmas Story. I'm so over that movie. I've refused to watch it for the last couple of years. Bah humbug :) And the Rudolph car is just ridiculous.

LOVE this post!!

I agree with you about blue lights and crappy light displays. But a few other things that annoy me are: eggnog--just yuck and real cranberry sauce--cranberry sauce is SUPPOSED to be in the shape of a can! There are more but those are the biggest annoyances;)

Decorated cars are the worst. Hands down.

Okay I am totally into the kids only card. I told my hubby that the day we have kids he'll never be tortured with the Christmas photo again. I'm sticking to my word.

And I just heard this yesterday on facebook from a friend who's hubby is a police officer---the blue lights are for to represent police officers who risked their lives?? I think??

Ha! I actually have a thing about blue lights too. I hate them. And Matt went out and bought some last year after Christmas that were on sale...and I was like, "Um, why the heck would you ever buy blue lights? That is so stupid." He was not pleased...

Blue lights really bother me too, especially the new LED lights. They're not white!!

LOL Oh I am sorry but I adore Home Alone....as long as I don't think about the parents leaving their kid all alone while they jet off to Paris! Love it.
Everything else I'm with you:)

i love that you wrote this! i hate that christmas shoes song too...makes me cry and who wants to cry at christmas! and decorating cars?? really???

lets add buying gifts for annoying people....

Jess said...

You are too funny!!! And so awesome -I love your list! I want to add people who say Happy Holidays -only to be "politically" correct -so to speak. And people who wear jewelry or clothing that lights up or plays music. And people who decorate by sticking stryofoam cups in a chain link fence spelling "Jesus Saves". Wow, I could go on and on...

I love that you said blue Christmas lights. J HATES everything blue for Christmas. I'm not allowed getting any sort of blue Christmas cards because he says it's Jewish too. Surprisingly I told people at work this and they thought he was crazy and didn't know that blue was the Jewish color per se. I thought it was just my crazy husband but ALAS he's not alone in his hatred for a "blue Christmas"

Gwen said...

LMAO!!! Blue lights in general are horrible. I can't stand those new LED lights in the multicolor. The blue always looks like its going a different direction and they make my head hurt.

Brian got angry with me when I told him not to decorate our house if he wasn't going to do it right. I'm going to have him read your post to prove my theory of laziness shows when you half ass do your lights.

I have only seen one decorated car this year. Guess your neighbors are just crazy.

Christmas Shoes - I know it's supposed to be a song about the Christmas spirit and all but dude...the kids mom is dying. Not a Christmas song. Especially when you loose your mom around the holidays. I know you feel me.

Bells on jewelry pisses me off. I don't want to hear you every time you move in your chair. If you would like I'll tie a damn cowbell around your neck the other 11 months out of the year.

And last but most definitely not least...my MIL. Nuf said.

XOXO

I know it's been a while, but I must say that even though the house looked good in blue, I wish they never do that again. The light that those Christmas lights emit can be harmful to the eyes of passersby. Sometimes, overdoing the light display can ruin the beauty of your home.

Always,
