Thank god THAT'S over!

Oh dear what a whirlwind 5 days THAT was. We have officially driven to Columbus, packed up our entire condo, storage unit, and ALL the wedding gifts we STILL haven't used from my mother in law's house, loaded up the UHaul, drove back to KC, unloaded everything into storage and managed to stay married. Whew. Glad that's behind me. I may just live in my parents house forever...cause the thought of loading all the stuff back up and moving into a home makes me nauseous. Screw the smallish starter home....wherever we finally end up is where we are staying FOR-EV-ER. Haha. Can you tell how much I L.O.V.E to move?!?

Here's a short list of things NOT to do on your next move.

Do NOT trust U-Haul's website recommendation on what size truck you need. A 14 ft truck will NOT hold an entire one bedroom condo and small storage space and wedding gifts as promised. Instead splurge for the 26 ft semi truck. Even though it claims to hold enough for a 4 bedroom home, it will be just enough. Apparently I squeeze a lot more stuff into my home than the average joe.

Do NOT get a 14 ft truck and then decide half way thru filling it there will not be enough space. If you do this, you will need to spend hours....in the rain.....trying to get the 26 ft semi mentioned above so you can then undo all the hard work already done to transfer first truck into second truck.

Do NOT get a storage space at the final resting place that is also too small. Take the hint that the small truck didn't work...neither will the small storage space.

Do NOT speed in a 26 ft UHaul. Cops will not take pity on you for driving such a monstrosity down I-70. They have no problem pulling you over for going 72 in a 65.

Do NOT pull over behind your husband when you see him get pulled over in a 26 ft UHaul....by the police. You will get the stink eye from the officer who will immediately call his buddies to come barrelling across the highway to instruct you to kindly move.

Do NOT forget how long 26 feet is when filling at a gas station. If you cut the corner too close you will be buying a nice man a new bumper and back tail light for his now scarred car.

And there you have it. My list of things NOT to do on your next move. Hopefully I saved you all a ton of time and heartache!

Oh my gosh, that sounds rough and kind of miserable! I'm sorry for the ordeal. Moving is also at the top of my list of least favorite things to do. I literally get stressed just thinking about it.

I also agree that uhaul is way off base when they say what their trucks can fit.

I'm glad you made it there safe though! :)

oh my gosh!! I did laugh at this! It sounds like a VERY eventful packing trip! I would have totally pulled over with him too, what else are you supposed to do?!

I sympathize with your hatred for moving. When I was in college, I lived in a sorority house which was closed during any and all school breaks that were one week or longer, so like spring break and over christmas, we would have to move all of our stuff out! It SUCKED!! And then once I got out of there, I lived in campus apartments that you had to move out of every semester, so I would move summer, spring, fall, you get the idea. Then when hubby and I moved into our house, all of our "friends" that said they would help us bailed and so basically hubby, my 60 year old dad, and I moved everything ourselves. From my parents house, hubby's old house, and a storage unit all to the new house. I will NEVER move myself again. I know movers are expensive, but it is SO worth it to me!!

Also, moving van rental people are rude and I will never use them again. We ordered several things with our truck rental, like a couple of hand trucks and I cen't remember what else, and when we got there and asked about them as we were about to leave, she was like "oh, yeah, we don't have them" And didn't care at all!

And to think things were going so smoothly on Friday when I saw you. What a bummer. When you move next time it might be worth it to hire a company to do everything. Then they are liable for any speeding or property damage.

Ems....I lived it with you, but now that we are all home again safe and sound, it is FUNNY to read about our cluster muck weekend of pack and move. Who would have thought that 2 skinny moving guys named Digger and Chris ended up being the highlight of our adventure! XOXOX mom

Ohmygosh! What a move you guys had... So sorry! Glad it's all done and behind you now though. I also learned the hard way not to trust U Haul's recommendations, but not quite as hard as you guys did (in another state in the rain). :( Sheesh!

On my, sounds like not the best moving experience. I feel ya, we had to move twice within a month and it was the biggest pain. I'm amazed my boyfriend and I managed to stay together!! Glad you made it.

OH NO! Moving is such a pain - and that pain is always worsened when there are U-Hauls involved.

How in the world did your husband get it to go 72 mph? Our could barely make it up a hill....
