Let's get physical...physical

So I'm channeling my inner Olivia Newton John in an effort to lose this baby weight....and the extra pounds I put on after the wedding..... and with the move to KC.
When it's all said and done I'd like to lose about 50 pounds.
Whew. That sounds like a lot.

Here's where we stand right now.......

38 weeks pregnant.
2 weeks post partum

Here I am at my goal. A few weeks before my wedding in Dec 2008. Sad thing is I thought I was fat then. Haha. I was crazy.

I've already lost 25 pounds since giving birth 2 weeks ago....12 more to go to be at my pre-pregnancy weight. You'd think I'd be feeling pretty good about myself, but I'm still sporting maternity clothes with a ways to go before zippers and buttons are going to happen. I just feel gross and flabby since all the weight is in my stomach. Even through all my ups and downs with my weight I've always manged to have a flat tummy, so this is a foreign concept to me and I don't like it! Let's not even talk about the stretch marks. I have hopes that the next 12 pounds should be gone by the time I return to work at 6 weeks since I barely have time to eat anymore and I've ditched the ice cream and gummy worm addiction from my pregnancy. Since I can't work out until I get the a-ok from my OB, eating right is the first step. So far so good...with the exception of a few treats here and there....you didn't expect me to go cold turkey did you?! Plus I am still pumping, so I like to think I'm burning all those extra calories in my vein attempt to produce even a little breast milk.
Once I get the green light I'm actually looking forward to working out. That may be a first for me....I detest, LOATHE working out. Now that we're in the house, I don't have access to a gym and paying for a membership is out of our budget right now. I'd like to try the couch to 5K plan I've heard so much about....and I think after sitting in it's original packaging for a year and half, it's finally time to break out my 30 day shred DVD. Jillian Michaels scares me and I'm already slightly afraid of how out of shape I am. I may not survive her wrath! I'm also considering Jazzercise. I know right? The 80s called and they want their workout back....but I know several people who have really enjoyed it and I think I will get more out of it than mindless running on a treadmill or elliptical machine. I need to keep things interesting if I'm going to keep it up.

Anyone have any good, inexpensive workouts to try? Thoughts on the Wii Fit? I'm open to anything!

I liked using Wii Fit when I first got it, but rarely use it anymore. Only thing our Wii is good for is to watch our Netflix!

I've heard that some of the Biggest Loser DVD's are good.

The Shred kills me -it is a great workout though! I do Zumba -it's a more modern Jazzercise and it is a great workout and a lot of fun (if you have a great instructor)! I do run and I used to love to run but anymore I find it hard to get motivated. My favorite is def Zumba! And on a sidenote -I think you look great for just having little man!

I have managed to take my 30 day shred out of the box and that is it! We too have a wii fit but I stopped using it cause I hated it telling me I was uncoordinated that I must fall on my face alot!

I really want to get in better shape before we get preggers with our own little one but then I think what is the point?

You are certainly on your way to getting back to your goal weight. 12 pounds isn't much at all! I did Nutrisystem to lose the bulk of my weight before my wedding and now I just eat smaller meals with more vegetables and fruit and I don't eat carbs after lunch. I've maintained pretty well with that and running or doing the elliptical 5 days a week. Tell us about Jillian's program if you ever get around to opening it up! :) I've been thinking about trying it out!

I think you look great girl!!! Don't sweat it either. Once you get back to work it will be much easier to drop the weight. I really need to get back into running and I could totally do the Couch to 5K with you. LOL!!! XOXO

I think you look great at two weeks out!! If you do try The Shred, definitely let me know how it works. One of my co-workers just bought P90X & it came in the mail today. It's $120 for all the info/dvds, but the work out equipment is extra. I'm interested to see how it works for her!

You look fab for 2 weeks out! Way to go!!! :) My workout opinions...hubs is doing C25K, I am not because its insanely hot and I'm not getting up early to run. I think you'd love Jazzercise though - a group class seems like it would be fun! As for Wii Fit, we have it and its fun, but it too gets a bit old. Perhaps if you were alternating it with something else :) Just my two cents...but you'll get there!! Sadly we all didn't gain those extra pounds over night and they won't go away over night either. :(

I think you look wonderful!

This may sound CRAZY but I'm planning on running the Cap City Half Marathon next May as a goal to get back into pre-baby shape. That will give me 6-7 months to get back into shape. There are TONS of work-outs on-line that you can tailor to the shape you're starting in and your work-out style. Good luck mama!

I didn't have any luck with the couch to 5K but that's because my shins are lousy. I've heard such fantastic things about the 30 day shred, I really want to try that too. Good luck girl, just stick to it!

That title makes me want to watch the Glee episode w/ONJ. That's awesome that you've only got 12 pregnancy lbs left! You look great! I feel you on the tummy issue that was my one non-problem area before I had the baby, and I hate what it looks like now. The Shred is hard, but it's only 20 minutes, and once you get the routine, you can mute Jillian's voice (i don't like it!) and put on some music and it goes by a lot faster :)

Girl, don't rush it. You look great! Enjoy your baby. You will have plenty of time to lose those extra pounds that you are not happy with.

Congrats on already being half way to your goal. I am trying to lose 30 lbs. by my 30th birthday next June!! I was in great shape for my wedding (I too thought I was fat) and let myself go for the past almost three years. I have started the 30 Day Shred and although it does kick my butt every time, it is only 20 mins!! I really like it, if that is possible. I have also heard wonderful things about the P90X, but I don't know anything about it. I have also gotten into running (walked for the first few weeks). Good luck!!!

30 Day Shred is killer! I got it to get in shape for my B pics right before the wedding and she kicked my ass every morning. It works though, I know that much. I've also been contemplating her yoga DVD, I've heard really good things about it too, and it's a little lower impact which would be nice for those of us just jumping back into the workout routine.

Good for you! You can do this!

And second, I cannot believe how much weight you've already lost! Looking great!

First, you look AMAZING only 2 weeks after!

I have tried the Shred and it's intense but great. Jillian also offers a longer version (shred is around 25 minutes) of her workout that's good too (another DVD). I've done Zumba before and sometimes you can find those classes elsewhere or Zumba-thons places on the weekends. I do have a friend who has done Jazzercise too and loves it. Just find something you love! If you decide to do a 5k, let me know.. I'll be doing another one probably in Oct.

You look great at 2 weeks pp. Seriously, girl. Give yourself a break right now. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Wait for the go ahead from your OB and even then start slow.

It's so tough to get a regimen of any sort with a new baby! I find that I feel pretty darn accomplished if I take a short walk ;)

I feel you...I really feel you on this one. It's been 8 months now since I've given birth & my stomach used to be my best "feature" too. I carry most of my weight in my butt/hips, but my stomach was always flat. Give yourself some time. I'm just now starting to lose the weight & I'm doing Weight Watchers with a few other mommy's. I'm trying very hard to stick with it, but its hard! I also have stretch marks on my lower tummy now. They will fade! I mean, mine haven't totally, but its a big difference from when I just had him. I never even had stretch marks while pregnant, they appeared AFTER! We have a Wii Fit & I really thought I would use it. My only prob with it is that the workouts aren't consistent enough for me. It's like 3-5 minutes of little mini active games. I like 45-60 minutes of a continuous workout. I don't like pausing to find a new game/workout. Why don't you sign up for a 5K & make it a goal? I was thinking about doing that. To bad we don't live close to each other. I need a gym/workout buddy!
Hang in there girlie!

I LOVE the Wii Fit. Granted, I haven't used it for major weight loss - just fun and toning - but I am always sore after I use it, so I figure it must be a decent workout.

If you’ve already lost 25 pounds, then you do not have far to go and I know you can do it. You just had a baby, so don’t be too hard on yourself.

I did the 30 Day Shred once and I am a complete fail because I never did it again. I know what you mean about the gym, although Geof and I have been very happy with Planet Fitness. We cut back so that he is paying $10 a month and can bring a guest for free so that is like $5 a month each for both of us.

I think Jazzercise would be fine and as long as you’re moving and getting your heart rate up, it beats sitting on the couch. I’ve heard great things about couch to 5K.

I know you’ll lose those last 12 pounds of baby weight in no time and you’ll be feeling better.

You’re reminding me that I need to get back on the workout wagon. I lost 19 pounds from around January-May and then took on a 2nd job and the gym became impossible. I’ve kept it off, but haven’t managed to lose anymore, which sucks. I need to figure something out.

I think that if you hate working out, you will lose interest after a while... just like me! After I had my kiddos, I followed Weight Watchers and am actually 3 sizes smaller than I was pre-preg. Don't worry... if you want it off, you will be able to do it. Count the WW points. It's SO easy! Good luck :o)

one of the hardest parts after having a baby is that even when you get to your pre-pregnancy weight its all shifted around and all loosey goosey. but then again now I can look at my 3 kids and realize that my body made those little beings {although why I had to make them so loud and dirty I'll never know}

good luck!
